BowlMe

Head to head, in real time

Bowl anyone, anywhere. Watch their shot between yours.

Your rival is on another lane, or in another city. Between your frames, their real ball plays on your phone, the pins go down, and the lead swings back and forth. Bowling side by side, from anywhere.

In testing on Android now. Free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

The opponent's ball, rolling: their real clip of the pin deck plays in the frame's card.

Head to head

The lane beside you, from anywhere.

The best nights are the ones bowled side by side, watching every shot your rival throws. BowlMe brings that back when they're across town or across the country: bowl at the same time, each on your own lane, and trade frames as you go, their real shot and then your next frame. Or chase a game they bowled earlier, frame by frame between yours.

You · lane 3

Your lane: the ball rolling toward the 2 and 4 pins, left standing for the spare.

Frame 6: your spare.

Sarah · 400 miles away

Her lane, filmed: the ball rolling into a full rack of ten pins.

Any lane, any city

A friend at another centre or a rival three states away. Challenge them, and you're in a match.

Their real shot, not a number

When they film, you watch their actual ball hit the pins. No clip? Their result lands with the margin.

It waits for you

Away from your phone? Their frame waits, and your next one holds until you've seen it. Or tap Skip this frame.

Just bowl, for a quick game

Pick Just bowl, or Skip the rest of the game, and their side stays hidden till your tenth. Then it all lands at once.

Recaps with the winning shot

Every match ends in a recap: the turning point, the best ball and the winning shot, to share with the people in it.

  • No sign-up formNo email or password to start bowling.
  • Scores stay yoursNever sent to analytics. Games are private.

Watch their shot

Their frame arrives with their real ball.

Once you've bowled your frame, theirs comes to you: the clip of their actual ball from their lane, then what it scored, then the match as it now stands.

  • Their clips reach your phone one frame at a time, and only once you have bowled that frame.
  • Watch every ball, or skip straight to the score: choose once in Settings, under Matches.
  • Missed one? Tap any frame they have played to watch it again.
  • Clips come from bowlers who switch on filming; any game can still be played without them.
Up close: Lab ghost's frame 8, their ball rolling, with their own clip of the full rack playing beside it, frame 8 ball 1. Then the result: Lab ghost's frame 8 is a strike, Lab ghost 129 through 6, you lead by 4, and your frame 9 is next.

  2. Lab ghost's ball, rolling: their real clip of the pin deck plays in the frame's card.

2Their ball rolls. The clip they filmed, one ball at a time.

  3. The score bug after their frame: you 87, Lab ghost 89, you trail by 2, with their spare now on their card.

3Their total lands. The margin moves, and you're up.

It watches the pins

Point it at the deck. It reads every ball.

Stand your phone beside the approach, facing the pins. The camera finds the deck, watches each ball arrive, and reads which pins fell. You confirm from the approach, by voice, or from your watch.

BowlMe's distance view on a real lane: the camera's picture of the pin deck beside the rack, and 9 down with pin 6 standing, offered to confirm.
  1. The camera's view of a real pin deck, all ten pins inside an amber box, with the words Found the deck: all 10 in view and a Start watching button.

1It finds the deck. All ten pins in view, boxed in amber.

  2. The camera's whole-screen view of the lane: a ball rolling into the full rack, the deck boxed in amber.

2It watches the ball arrive. The picture is read on the phone, never uploaded.

  3. The distance view after the ball: the rack shows pin 6 standing, the camera's picture beside it, and 9 down, 6, with Confirm and Not my ball.

3It reads what fell. Nine down, the 6 left. Confirm, or fix it with a tap.

And the rest of your game

Your form, your leaves, your lane and your league.

Everything a league night needs, on the phone already in your pocket.

BowlMe's Home screen: a 197 average in a ring, the last ten games as bars, up 4 over 8 weeks, with 43% strikes, 72% spares and a 257 high game, over a Bowl a game button.

Your form

Your average, and which way it's going.

Home opens on your form: your average in a ring against 300 with your high game marked, your last ten games as bars, and the trend in plain words.

  • Strike and spare rates counted from every chance, not just the good ones.
  • Averages, high games, clean games and split conversions, by night and by ball.

Spare practice

Know which spare costs you most.

BowlMe ranks your leaves by the pins they cost you a game, draws the costliest one on the deck, and takes you straight into practising it.

  • How often you convert each leave, and what it costs you per game.
  • A heat map of every pin you left standing.
Bowl together: one scorecard with six bowlers, Dana, Sam, Alexandra, Joe, Priya and Grandpa Joe, with Dana up in frame 4.

Pick who is bowling and the order, guests included. The phone hands over after each frame, says whose turn it is in large type, and ends on the night's standings.

  • Fix anybody's frame with a tap.
  • Put the best game of the night up to chase afterwards.

And the rest of it

How ghost matches work

They bowled it on Tuesday. You find out how it ends on Thursday.

  1. Pick a game to chase

One another bowler has put up to chase, one they challenged you with, or one of your own. You see their name and when it was bowled. Never the score.

  2. Bowl your frame

Score it however you like: with the count pad, the pins, or the camera.

  3. Their frame unlocks

Only once yours is in does their frame arrive from the server, with the running margin. The frames you haven't reached never reach your phone.

  4. Find out in the tenth

Win or lose, send a one-word reaction, and let them chase your game back.

A finished ghost match: you 190, Sarah 90, won by 100, with both full scorecards, a reaction to send Sarah, and Let Sarah chase your 190.

Privacy first

Your games are yours.

The people you bowl against see what they have earned, and nobody sees your games otherwise.

No ads, ever

No ads, no advertising ID, and nothing sold or shared with advertisers.

No scores in analytics

A few usage counts and crash reports, tied to no account and never holding a score, an opponent, a centre or a time. One switch turns them off.

The camera stays on the phone

Pins are read on your phone. Nothing it sees is uploaded unless you switch on filming or pin-reading help yourself.

No email, no password

You start with an anonymous account. Back up with Google only if you want to.

Private games

Your name and record are public; your games are not. A challenge never shows its score.

Questions

How do I get BowlMe?

It's in testing on Android. Join the tester list and you'll get an invitation with an install link. It's coming to Google Play and the App Store.

What does it cost?

Nothing. There are no ads and no in-app purchases.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. BowlMe is on Android first, with an optional Wear OS watch app. The iPhone version is coming to the App Store.

Do I have to use the camera?

No. You can score every game by hand, with a count pad or by tapping the pins that fell. The camera is there when you want the phone to do the tapping.

Do we have to bowl at the same time?

No, but you can. Bowl at the same time, each on your own lane, and trade frames live: their frame arrives as soon as you've both bowled it. Or they bowl their game whenever suits them and you chase it later, frame by frame between yours: a game they bowled on Tuesday, watched shot by shot on Thursday.

What if there's no signal at the lanes?

Keep bowling. Games score with no signal and nothing is lost; they go through once you're back online. A ghost match carries on through a dropout too.

Who can see my scores?

Other bowlers see your name and your record: games bowled, recent average, high game, and wins and losses. Your games themselves are private. An opponent receives your frames only as they bowl theirs, and a game you put up to chase never shows its score.

Can I bring in my league's scores?

Yes. Import a season from your league secretary's export: pick the file, say which line is you, check what it found, and confirm. An import can be taken back out.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings, then Privacy & data, then Delete my account and data. It removes your account and everything that is yours, from our servers and your phone. The privacy policy has the details.
